As an active member of the Association of Financial Mutuals (AFM), we fully support one of the key aims of the association which is to encourage financial awareness amongst all sectors of society, young and old, and those from all walks of life.

The AFM has recently launched two websites which have been designed to encourage financial awareness in one of these areas - young children - through fun interactive play. Cirencester friendly is pleased to support these two websites.

Fun to Save

In 2009 ‘Fun to Save’ was launched. It was an innovative and interactive website for 4-7 year olds. Designed by educational experts the website aims to address financial capability amongst Key Stage 1 children in a fun and entertaining way.

‘Fun to Save’ combines online pupil games with downloadable teacher resources that meet the national curriculum and suggested activities to use at home. Developed alongside the Department of Children, Families and Schools; the FSA Financial Capability Team; HM Treasury and the Personal, Financial & Social Education Group (PFEG) the website educates children using a variety of games which earn them points. These points can then be ‘saved’ or used to ‘buy’ stickers for an online sticker album, colouring in sheets or accessories for their ‘play’ character.

Saving Squad

‘Saving Squad’ was launched by the AFM on 1 November 2010 to help 7-11 year olds understand the importance of money management. Like ‘Fun To Save’, which is aimed at younger children, ‘Saving Squad’ has been designed to encourage a healthy attitude towards money in our next generation.

The site uses fun interactive activities which are placed in a vibrant virtual town. The activities replicate everyday scenarios like going bowling and visits to the cinema, where children have to calculate how much the different elements will cost. By doing this correctly, they earn points, which can be saved or used to buy fun stuff.

Once again, educational experts d2 Digital have worked closely with the AFM to deliver a website that educates young people in the importance of understanding how to manage their money.
